Luke Shaw has vowed to prove himself to Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho by declaring “this is my season”.

The left-back struggled to hold down a regular starting spot at Old Trafford last term following his return from a broken leg.

Mourinho was publicly critical of Shaw at certain points last season but the left-back is now determined to prove himself at Old Trafford.

Speaking to Manchester United’s website, Shaw said: “I feel this is my season to prove myself and I am feeling in good shape. In myself I feel confident.

“I want to show everyone that I believe in myself and show the manager that he can believe in me.”

Manchester United have been relatively active in the summer transfer window so far, signing both Romelu Lukaku and Victor Lindelof.

However, the Red Devils will be keen to bring in some more players this summer as Mourinho prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.

Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League but won the EFL Cup and Europa League under the Portuguese coach last term following his appointment in May 2016.

The Red Devils will take on Real Madrid in the Uefa Super Cup on 8 August in their first competitive game of the season.
