The Spanish forward has been relentlessly linked with a move away from Real Madrid this summer due to his lack of playing time at the Spanish club last term.
Morata will understandably be keen to get as much first-team football as possible next season in the lead-up to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
Manchester United completed the signing of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku last week, which would suggest that the Red Devils are no longer on the lookout for another attacker.
However, Morata’s Spanish team-mate Mata has suggested that Manchester United could still be set to make a late move to try to bring the 24-year-old striker to Old Trafford.
Mata told Cadena Cope, as quoted by the Daily Express: “It looks tough to see Alvaro Morata in a Red Devils shirt with the arrival of Romelu.
“We’ve signed an important player in attack and it’s difficult, although you never know.
“Things can happen in the last few days, but I wish Alvaro the best.”
Manchester United are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after having secured Europa League glory last term.
The Red Devils will be hoping to mount a Premier League title challenge next season after they finished in a disappointing sixth place last term.
