Ander Herrera has vowed to personally intervene and do whatever he can to prevent David De Gea leaving Manchester United to sign for Real Madrid this summer.

The Spanish shot-stopper has been heavily linked with a move to the Bernabeu again this summer, two years after his proposed switch to the Spanish club fell through at the final hour.

It remains to be seen whether Real Madrid will return with a fresh bid for the goalkeeper this summer as they look to try and bring him back to Spain.

However, midfielder Herrera has insisted that De Gea is happy at Manchester United and that he himself will do everything in his power to try and convince De Gea to stay.

Herrera is quoted as saying by the Daily Express: “He’s happy. I know this is going to sound repetitive because I always say the same by David is one of the few keepers who wins you points.

“I’m going to do everything I can to make sure he stays.”

Manchester United will take on Real Madrid in a potentially feisty Uefa Super Cup clash on 8 August.

Jose Mourinho is preparing his team for a return to the Champions League next season after the Red Devils won the Europa League in the Portuguese coach’s first campaign in charge at the club.
