Gary Pallister believes that Manchester United are set to challenge for the Premier League title next season.

The Red Devils endured a frustrating season last term in the Premier League following Jose Mourinho’s appointment as they stuttered to a sixth-placed finish in the top flight.

However, Manchester United did secure a return to the Champions League next term by beating Ajax in the Europa League final to seal their spot in Europe’s elite club competition next season.

Red Devils fans will be hoping to see Manchester United challenge for the title as Mourinho looks to steer his side to the trophy for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013.

And former Manchester United defender Pallister feels that anything but a title challenge next season would be seen as a disappointment.

Speaking to 888sport, Pallister said: “It’s difficult to judge because last year we won two trophies and qualified for the Champions League all-be-it through the back door.

“Failure would certainly be failing to finish in the top four. That’s always been the remit for managers since Sir Alex left.

“But I would expect United to be up there challenging as well. It would be disappointing if we aren’t.”

Manchester United have signed Victor Lindelof and Romelu Lukaku so far this summer as they prepare for Mourinho’s second campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
