Jamie Redknapp believes that Romelu Lukaku will have to improve his work-rate at Manchester United next season.

The Belgian forward became the Red Devils’ second signing of the summer on Monday when he signed for Jose Mourinho’s team from Everton.

Lukaku was heavily linked with a move to Chelsea throughout the summer but ended up signing for Manchester United this week.

The Red Devils were looking to replace both Wayne Rooney and Zlatan Ibrahimovic as Mourinho gears up for his second season in charge at the club.

And although Redknapp feels that Lukaku’s proven Premier League pedigree will be a benefit for Manchester United, he feels that he must also improve his work-rate.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Redknapp said: “Lukaku will fill the void that Zlatan Ibrahimovic has left. They certainly needed a striker.

“Alvaro Morata was the one that looked like he was going to United but in Lukaku, you’ve got Premier League pedigree. He knows the league inside out.

“He could be fitter, he could work harder but there’s a lot more to come from him and United fans will be hoping that Jose Mourinho can bring that out of him.”

Manchester United will be looking to challenge for the Premier League title next season after the Red Devils ended up sixth in the table last term.

However, they did secure a return to the Champions League next season by beating Ajax in the Europa League final in Stockholm in May.
