Michael Owen has told Manchester United that their main priority this summer must be to try and keen David De Gea at the club.

The Red Devils have inevitably been linked with a whole host of Europe’s top players this summer as Jose Mourinho prepares for his second season in charge at the club.

Manchester United have completed two signings so far this summer – defender Victor Lindelof from Benfica and striker Romelu Lukaku from Everton.

It is thought that the Red Devils are still on the lookout for a number of new additions as Mourinho prepares his team for a return to the Champions League next season.

However, former Manchester United striker Owen feels that the Red Devils should be only now focusing on making sure they keep De Gea at the club, after the goalkeeper was again linked with a move to Real Madrid.

Speaking in an interview with Metro, Owen said: “The key for Manchester United now is keeping David De Gea – if they lose him that will definitely weaken their side.

“There’s no-one out there who will improve that position. Keeping him is a huge thing if they can do that.”

Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League last season but won the EFL Cup and Europa League to seal a return to the Champions League.
