Gary Neville has accused Romelu Lukaku of “going missing” in too many matches for Everton last season after Manchester United confirmed a deal to sign the striker on Saturday.

The Red Devils confirmed a deal to land the forward from Everton on Saturday morning after heavy speculation linking him with a move to Old Trafford.

Reports of Lukaku’s proposed move to Manchester United emerged towards the end of last week and came as something of a surprise to many fans, because the striker was being heavily linked with a return to Chelsea before the Red Devils’ interest became public.

Lukaku will now link up with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford as the Portuguese coach aims to transform Manchester United into Premier League title contenders next season.

However, Neville does not appear to be Lukaku’s biggest fan.

Replying to one Twitter used about why he doesn’t rate Lukaku, Neville wrote: “He went missing in too many matches I saw, but with a better team + players around him he has an improved chance to deliver in big matches.”

Manchester United will be aiming to challenge for the Premier League title next season after the Red Devils finished sixth in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at Old Trafford.
