Ruud van Nistelrooy makes prediction about new Man United signing and Jose Mourinho
The Manchester United legend is backing Jose Mourinho to get the best out of his big summer signing Romelu Lukaku
Ruud van Nistelrooy has backed Jose Mourinho to get the best out of Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku.
The Red Devils made the Belgium international their second summer signing earlier this month after Manchester United signed Lukaku in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton.
Lukaku opted to make the switch to Old Trafford ahead of a return to Premier League champions Chelsea despite Antonio Conte being heavily linked with a move to sign the 24-year-old.
Questions have been raised about Lukaku’s ability to thrive at a top club after Jose Mourinho made the decision to sell the Belgian forward during his second spell in charge at Chelsea.
However, former Manchester United striker Van Nistelrooy believes Mourinho can get the best out of Lukaku and help guide the centre-forward through his initials months at Manchester United.
“I don’t think he could be playing for a better manager than Jose Mourinho,” Van Nistelrooy told Manchester United’s website.
“He will help and guide Lukaku through this stage in his career and, if he has any difficulty, Jose has the experience and advice to get players back on track.
“I think that combination will prove a very successful one.”
Lukaku scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season as Everton finished in seventh place in the table.
Chelsea sold the Belgium international to Everton in a £29m deal in the 2014 summer transfer window.
