Ex-striker tells new Man United signing to embrace Roy Keane mentality
The former striker wants to see new Manchester United signing Romelu Lukaku to channel his inner Roy Keane
Stan Collymore believes Romelu Lukaku could become an incredible Manchester United player if the striker channels his inner Roy Keane.
The Belgium international was heavily linked with a move to Premier League champions Chelsea throughout the summer transfer window.
However, Manchester United managed to pull off a sensational swoop and complete a £75m deal to sign the Belgian forward ahead of Chelsea.
Lukaku scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season but questions remain about the striker’s big-game mentality.
The 24-year-old failed to make an impression at Chelsea under Jose Mourinho and the centre-forward was sold to Everton in a £29m transfer in 2014.
However, Mourinho opted to bring the striker to Manchester United this summer, making Lukaku the club’s second most-expensive signing of all-time.
Former Liverpool and Nottingham Forest striker Collymore believes Lukaku can become a great Manchester United player if the striker can cultivate a mentality similar to Keane.
“Lukaku will be unstoppable and whatever he wants to be in years to come if he can learn how to unleash his inner-Roy Keane every time he pulls on his boots,” Collymore wrote in his Daily Mirror column.
Manchester United have signed Lukaku in a big-money deal from Everton after the Red Devils completed a £30.7m switch from Portuguese champions Benfica earlier this month.
