Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United fans about new signing
Jose Mourinho reveals his delight with how Romelu Lukaku has settled into life at Manchester United
Romelu Lukaku has earned praise from Jose Mourinho after the striker made it two goals in two games during Manchester United’s pre-season tour.
The Belgian striker, who signed for the Red Devils from Everton earlier this month, opened the scoring in a 2-0 win over Manchester City in a pre-season friendly on Thursday night, with Marcus Rashford netting the second.
Manchester United fans will be hoping that the 24-year-old Lukaku will be the man to fire the Red Devils to their first Premier League title since their last triumph back in 2013.
And Mourinho has revealed that he has been thrilled by the impact Lukaku has had at the club since his arrival earlier this month.
Speaking at his post-match news conference in Houston, Mourinho said: “We saw the team player [Lukaku] that holds the ball, that waits for support, that allows the team to leave pressure zones and to keep possession in the opposition half.
“People look at goals and chances but I have a different perspective and I couldn’t be happier with what he’s doing.
“I couldn’t be happier that we managed to sign him before the pre-season because in this 10 days of work and these minutes of football with the team-mates it’s fantastic for their understanding.”
Manchester United are preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after the Red Devils won the Europa League in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at the club.
The Red Devils also won the EFL Cup last season but finished sixth in the Premier League.
