Ex-coach predicts where Man United will finish next season
Mike Phelan is tipping Manchester United to challenge for the Premier League title next season
Mike Phelan is backing Manchester United to challenge for the Premier League title next season as Jose Mourinho looks to steer the Red Devils to title glory.
The 20-time English champions came up short in the Premier League last term in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge at the club, as they ended up in sixth place in the table.
However, the Portuguese coach did manage to end last season on a high as he led the Red Devils to Europa League and EFL Cup glory.
Manchester United are now preparing for a return to the Champions League next season but Red Devils fans will also be hoping to see them challenge for the title as they bid to win the Premier League for the first time since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013.
And former Manchester United coach Phelan feels that the Red Devils will be one of the many teams challenging for the Premier League title next term.
Speaking in an interview with Sky Sports, Phelan said: “I think everybody will [challenge for the title].
“I think that it is important that Manchester United improve year-on-year, you know, they’ve had a little down time, now they have had a little success they will want to improve on that, I’m sure, and it will be competitive because everyone else is looking for that elusive championship title.”
Manchester United also won the Community Shield last season in Mourinho’s first campaign in charge.
