New Man United signing sends message to supporters
Romelu Lukaku is determined to prove his worth to Manchester United as he prepares for his first season at the club
Romelu Lukaku has vowed to take his chance and prove himself worthy of a place in the Manchester United team.
The Belgian striker became the Red Devils’ second signing of the summer earlier this month when he signed a deal to join Jose Mourinho team from Everton.
The transfer came as something of a surprise to many, with Lukaku having been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea before his switch to the Red Devils was confirmed.
Manchester United were thought to be interested in signing Alvaro Morata from Real Madrid but the Spaniard ended up at Chelsea as Mourinho’s side landed Lukaku.
Lukaku has proven Premier League pedigree and will be hoping to help to fire Manchester United to their first title since Sir Alex Ferguson’s retirement back in 2013.
Speaking to the Daily Mail, Lukaku said: “It feels great (to be a United player).
“It is something I always wanted. I always wanted to play for a club of this stature.
“Now I am here I want to take my chance and try to deliver as much as I could for the club. I don’t want to talk about personal ambitions. I just want to work hard on a daily basis and win as many games as I can.”
Manchester United are also preparing for a return to the Champions League next season after the Red Devils won the Europa League under Mourinho last term.
The Portuguese coach was appointed at Old Trafford back in May 2016 and also led the Red Devils to the EFL Cup last season.
