Manchester United have made a £35m bid to sign Nemanja Matic from Chelsea, according to reports in the British media.

The Daily Mirror is reporting that the Red Devils have made an official approach to try and sign the 28-year-old midfielder after Chelsea completed the capture of midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko last weekend.

However, the same story says that Chelsea have informed Manchester United that they can have Matic – but only for a fee of £50m.

The article says Chelsea are still “smarting” after Manchester United ended up beating them to the signature of Everton striker Romelu Lukaku this summer.

The story also claims that although Juventus are also said to be interested, Matic himself has expressed a desire to go to Old Trafford this summer.

The article also says that Chelsea would be willing to grant Matic his wish of moving to a direct rival as a “thank you” for his service at the club.

Chelsea confirmed their fourth signing of the summer on Friday evening as they announced the capture of striker Alvaro Morata on a five-year contract.
