New Man United signing sends strong message to supporters
Romelu Lukaku has promised Manchester United fans that he will do everything in his power to help Manchester United win trophies next season
Romelu Lukaku has promised Manchester United fans that he will do everything he can to help the Red Devils win trophies next season.
The Belgian forward became Manchester United’s second signing of the summer over the weekend after the Red Devils agreed a £75m deal to sign the 24-year-old striker from Everton.
The move came as something of a surprise for many fans given that Lukaku had been heavily linked with a move to Chelsea for much of the summer.
However, Lukaku is now preparing to line up as a Manchester United player next season after Jose Mourinho made him his top striking target.
Speaking in an exclusive interview with ESPN, Lukaku said: “Who would say no to the biggest club in the world? Best stadium in England. The best fans.
“This is the perfect opportunity. I always said I wanted to play for a team that’s challenging for every trophy that there is. I think Manchester United at the minute wants to be the dominant team, that dominant force. If you look at their history, it says enough.
“To become part of a club like them is something that I really wanted. I’m thankful for the opportunity that they gave me.
“Now it’s time to work hard, work harder than I ever did before. I’m willing to do it. Hopefully, it will come a good way.”
Manchester United finished sixth in the Premier League last season but secured a return to the Champions League by wining the Europa League last term under Mourinho.
The Red Devils will be hoping to challenge for the top-flight title next season, with Manchester United not having won the Premier League since Sir Alex Ferguson retired back in 2013.
