Gary Neville has taken to social media to admit that he has never been Romelu Lukaku’s “biggest fan” after Manchester United confirmed a deal to sign the striker on Saturday.

The Red Devils released a statement on Saturday morning confirming that they had agreed a fee with Everton to bring the Belgian forward to Old Trafford as their second summer signing.

The move has come as something of a surprise because Chelsea were thought to be the front-runners for Lukaku’s signature for most of the summer.

Lukaku is now poised to line up for Jose Mourinho once again after having played under him at Chelsea before his move to Everton in 2014.

Former Manchester United defender Neville accepts that Lukaku will bring goals to the team but he is not completely happy about the signing.

Asked by one fan on Twitter how he rates the signing of Lukaku, Neville replied on Saturday: “He’s incredibly talented and I’ve seen him destroy defences but personally I’ve never been his biggest fan. However, he will score goals.”

Manchester United are due to jet off to the United States for their pre-season tour on Sunday as Mourinho prepares for his second season in charge at Old Trafford.
