Jose Mourinho sends message to Man United fans about ‘phenomenal’ title rival
The Manchester United manager is impressed with Tottenham Hotspur's transfer activity so far this summer
Jose Mourinho has warned Manchester United that Tottenham Hotspur have had a “phenomenal” summer transfer window so far.
The Red Devils have made two signings this summer as Mourinho looks to bolster his squad ahead of a return to the Champions League this coming season.
Manchester United recruited Victor Lindelof in a £30.7m deal from Portuguese champions Benfica to reinforce their defensive options following last season’s injury crisis at the back.
The 20-time English champions have also signed Everton striker Romelu Lukaku in a £75m deal despite the Belgium international being heavily linked with a return to Premier League champions Chelsea.
Tottenham, on the other hand, haven’t made any signings so far this summer but have managed to keep important players such as English trio Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Eric Dier.
Spurs sold Kyle Walker to title rivals Manchester City in a £52m deal earlier this month as Mauricio Pochettino looks to promote Kieran Trippier to first-choice right-back.
Manchester United boss Mourinho has been impressed with Tottenham’s transfer dealings so far despite Manchester City spending the most money this summer so far.
“Everybody speaks about investment at Manchester City but is another team that the investment is also phenomenal – Tottenham. Until now they spent £0 right?” Mourinho told Sky Sports.
“They keep everybody they want; Dele Alli, Kane, Alderweireld, Eric Dier. They sold Kyle Walker I think because they wanted to sell. And probably because they think Trippier is as good as Walker and he’s younger.”
