Man United still need summer signing in this position, claims ex-striker
Former Arsenal striker Stewart Robson says Manchester United still need to sign a defensive midfielder this summer
Manchester United still need to sign a defensive midfielder to partner Ander Herrera this summer, says Stewart Robson.
The Red Devils have already made two signings in the summer transfer window as Jose Mourinho looks to prepare his squad for a return to the Champions League next term.
Manchester United recruited Sweden international Victor Lindelof in a 30.7m deal from Portuguese champions Benfica earlier this summer.
The Europa League winners managed to hijack Chelsea’s deal to sign Romelu Lukaku and reunite the striker with his ex-Blues boss Mourinho at Old Trafford.
Manchester United are thought to be closing in on the signing of Nemanja Matic from Premier League champions Chelsea amid reports of a medical on Sunday.
Former Arsenal striker Robson believes Manchester United still need to sign a holding midfielder to help Herrera with the workload next season.
“I like Herrera as a holding midfield player but I still think they’re a little bit short in there,” Robson told ESPN FC.
“Pogba is an outstanding player. I’d like to see someone on the otherside of Herrera.”
Manchester United finished in sixth place in the Premier League table in their first season under Mourinho.
The Red Devils won the EFL Cup and the Europa League to add more silverware to their vast collection.
