Jose Mourinho rules out Man United signing 28-year-old superstar
The Manchester United boss insists Real Madrid winger Gareth Bale is not a summer target for the club
Jose Mourinho has ruled out Manchester United signing Gareth Bale from Real Madrid this summer.
The Red Devils have already made two summer signings but the Manchester United boss has made no secret of his desire to make a third and fourth addition to his squad before the close of the transfer window.
Manchester United have been linked with a potential move for Bale after the Wales international endured a frustrating season at The Bernabeu following an injury-hit campaign.
The Red Devils were thought to be in contention to sign Bale in 2013 before the winger left Tottenham Hotspur in a £85.6m deal to Real Madrid.
Speaking at his pre-match media conference ahead of Sunday’s clash against Real Madrid at the International Cup in Santa Clara, Mourinho was asked about whether the club had an interest in 28-year-old Bale.
Mourinho replied: “No [he is not on my list].
“You have contacts and feelings and you understand things.
“It’s clear Bale likes Madrid, likes the challenge and the situation. He is in a very good situation now.
“I never felt a desire for him to leave. Why waste time and energy on him like that?”
Manchester United will take on Real Madrid in the International Champions Cup in Santa Clara on Sunday afternoon.
The Red Devils booked their place in the Champions League next season thanks to a 2-0 win against Ajax in the Europa League final.
Mourinho was appointed as Louis van Gaal’s successor last summer and signed four players to overhaul the Red Devils squad.
