Man United willing to match Chelsea’s asking price for 28-year-old star, claims insider
ESPN reporter David Amoyal expects Chelsea midfielder Nemanja Matic to move to Manchester United this summer
Manchester United are ready to match Chelsea’s valuation of defensive midfielder Nemanja Matic, according to David Amoyal.
The Red Devils have been linked with a move to sign the Serbia international in the summer transfer window.
Matic is facing increased competition for places at Chelsea after Antonio Conte signed Tiemoue Bakayoko in a £39m deal from Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco.
The Serbian midfielder is thought to be open to moving to Manchester United this summer to reunite with his former Chelsea boss Jose Mourinho.
The Premier League champions are thought to be holding out for a transfer fee in the region of £50m for the 28-year-old holding midfielder.
ESPN reporter Amoyal believes Manchester United are in a good position to sign the former Benfica midfielder in the current transfer window.
“Despite Juventus’ interest, the Serbian midfielder likely will be reunited with Jose Mourinho at Old Trafford,” Amoyal told ESPN.
“With the chances of landing Eric Dyer dwindling, Manchester United have become inclined to match Chelsea’s asking price – and Roman Abramovich appears willing to let Matic head to his preferred destination as a goodwill gesture.
“Considering Chelsea already signed Matic’s replacement in Tiemoue Bakayoko, a deal is rather likely.”
Matic scored one goal and made seven assists in 35 appearances in the Premier League last season.
Chelsea won the Premier League title in their first season under Conte’s management.
The Serbian will compete with N’Golo Kante, Bakayoko and Cesc Fabregas for a starting spot if the Serbian remains at Stamford Bridge.
