Insider claims Man United ‘likely’ to sign key Chelsea star
The Sky Sports News reporter talks up the likelihood of Manchester United completing a deal to sign Chelsea in the summer transfer window
Manchester United’s chances of signing Nemanja Matic from Chelsea are looking very good, according to Dharmesh Sheth.
The Red Devils have been heavily linked with a move to sign the Serbia international in recent months as Jose Mourinho looks to bolster his defensive midfield options.
Manchester United were initially thought to be chasing AS Monaco midfielder Fabinho before Tottenham Hotspur star Eric Dier emerged as a surprise target.
However, Mourinho is now being tipped to reunite with Matic at Manchester United after the Portuguese coach signed the 28-year-old in a £21m deal from Portuguese champions Benfica in 2014.
The Serb is facing increased competition for a starting spot at Chelsea this season after Antonio Conte signed Tiemoue Bakayoko in a £39m deal from Ligue 1 champions AS Monaco.
Sky Sports News reporter Sheth believes Manchester United are likely to sign Matic before the close of the summer transfer window.
“A likely departure from Chelsea is the midfielder Nemanja Matic,” Sheth told Sky Sports News on Friday morning.
“Manchester United are interested and Jose Mourinho has made public his desire to bring in a holding midfielder.
“Juventus looked like a likelier destination earlier this month but their prime target now appears to be Paris Saint-Germain’s Blaise Matuidi.”
