Journalist sends ‘perfect’ message to Man United about 24-year-old striker
Reporter Andy Mitten welcomes reports linking Manchester United with a move to sign Everton star Romelu Lukaku
Manchester United would be signing a player at the perfect age if the Red Devils complete a deal for Everton striker Romelu Lukaku, according to Andy Mitten.
The FourFourTwo journalist took to Twitter to react to reports that Manchester United are planning to hijack Chelsea’s bid to sign the Belgium international.
The Red Devils are thought to have made signing Lukaku their top target this summer despite being heavily linked with a move to bring in Real Madrid forward Alvaro Morata.
Lukaku played under Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho during his spell in charge at Chelsea but the Portuguese coach opted to sell the Belgian forward to Everton in a £27m deal.
However, Mitten, who is the editor of Manchester United’s infamous fanzine United We Stand, welcomed reports linking the 20-time English champions with a move to sign Lukaku.
Mitten wrote on Twitter: “Lukaku’s 24, the same age as his close mate Pogba. Perfect age to sign a player. Hope they combine as well on pitch as off it.”
Lukaku scored 25 goals in 36 games in the Premier League last season to finish as the division’s second-highest goal-scorer behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane.
