Robbie Fowler has warned Romelu Lukaku that he still has quite a bit to prove despite securing a big-money move to Manchester United.

The Red Devils agreed a £75m fee with Everton to sign Lukaku in the summer transfer window despite the striker being linked with a move to Chelsea.

However, Manchester United managed to beat the Premier League champions to the 24-year-old’s signature to bolster their attacking options.

The former Anderlecht striker scored 25 times in 36 games in the Premier League last season to end up as the division’s second-highest goal-scorer.

Lukaku played under Jose Mourinho at Chelsea but the Portuguese coach showed a lack of faith in the centre-forward after sending the striker out on a series of loans before eventually selling the Belgian in a £27m deal to Everton.

Liverpool legend Fowler believes there is a lot of pressure on Lukaku given the striker’s hefty price tag.

Fowler told the Daily Mirror: “I do believe he’ll score goals, which is the bottom line on why they’ve paid so much for Lukaku – and no matter which way you look at it, it’s a helluva price for any player, let alone someone who still has quite a bit to prove at the highest level.”

Lukaku netted 53 times in 110 games since his permanent move to Goodison Park after the Belgian striker scored 15 times in 31 games during a loan spell at Merseyside outfit.
