Robbie Fowler makes claim about new Man United signing and Zlatan Ibrahimovic
The Liverpool legend believes Manchester United have secured an upgrade on Zlatan Ibrahimovic after signing Romelu Lukaku from Everton
Romelu Lukaku is an upgrade on former Manchester United striker Zlatan Ibrahimovic, according to Robbie Fowler.
The Red Devils agreed a £75m deal to sign the Belgium international from Premier League rivals Everton on Saturday.
Lukaku has since agreed terms with Manchester United and passed a medical to become their second summer signing.
The Belgian forward will be tasked with filling Ibrahimovic’s void at Old Trafford after the 35-year-old wasn’t offered a new deal.
The ex-Barcelona striker scored 28 times in all competitions last term after Ibrahimovic moved to Manchester United from Paris Saint-Germain.
Former Liverpool striker Fowler believes Lukaku is more than a worthy successor to the retired Sweden international in Jose Mourinho’s side.
“I think in many ways he’s an upgrade on Ibrahimovic,” Fowler wrote in his Daily Mirror column.
“Zlatan got goals, but United didn’t get that energetic young eager performer who would run at defenders, run in behind and take the threat to opponents.”
Ibrahimovic scored 17 goals in 28 games in the Premier League last season to help Manchester United to finish in sixth place in the table last term.
Lukaku, on the other hand, has netted 25 times in 36 outings in the English top flight in the Everton side but ended up four goals short of Harry Kane’s tally.
Manchester United won the EFL Cup and the Europa League last term.
