Man United urged to sign 23-year-old star ahead of Nemanja Matic
Arsenal legend Stewart Robson believes Eric Dier is a better option for Manchester United than Nemanja Matic
Eric Dier would be a better option to strengthen Manchester United’s midfield options than Nemanja Matic, according to Stewart Robson.
The Red Devils have been linked with a number of defensive midfielders in the summer transfer window so far, but have failed to get any deals over the line.
Manchester United are thought to be closing in on a deal to sign Chelsea star Matic, with Mourinho bringing the Serbia international back to Stamford Bridge in 2014.
The Red Devils were reported to have failed with three offers for England international Dier, with Tottenham digging their heels in over the midfielder’s potential sale.
Former Arsenal striker Robson believes Dier would be a better addition given his defensive ability and versatility if Manchester United were to spend big on a holding midfielder.
“I would say Dier is the better defensive player, but Matic is a better passer of the ball,” Robson told ESPN FC.
“Dier is the better defender because he can play at centre-half as well.”
Manchester United started their summer transfer business with a £30.7m deal to sign Sweden international Victor Lindelof from Portuguese champions Benfica.
The Red Devils have also signed Belgium international Romelu Lukaku in a £75m deal from Premier League rivals Everton earlier this month.
