Romelu Lukaku has not yet undergone a medical with Manchester United, according to BBC reporter Simon Stone.

There were widespread reports in the British media on Thursday suggesting that the Red Devils were closing in on a deal to sign Lukaku from Everton in a big-money transfer deal.

Manchester United are thought to be on the lookout for significant reinforcements this summer as Jose Mourinho prepares for his second season in charge.

And a move for Lukaku would make sense, given that Zlatan Ibrahimovic looks set to leave the club and Wayne Rooney’s future remains unclear.

However, contrary to some reports BBC Sport journalist Stone has insisted that Lukaku is not yet due to undergo a medical with Manchester United.

Stone tweeted on Friday afternoon: “No Lukaku medical yet. Obviously can’t happen until United ask for – and get – permission.”

Mourinho is currently preparing his team for their pre-season tour of the United States, with Manchester United set to jet out to LA on Sunday to begin their preparations for the new campaign.

Manchester United made defender Victor Lindelof their first signing of the summer last month when they completed a deal to bring him to Old Trafford from Benfica.
