Paul Pogba sends message to Man United fans about role in Romelu Lukaku transfer
The Manchester United record signing has spoken about his role in the club's £75m deal to sign Romelu Lukaku
Paul Pogba has lifted the lid on his role in Romelu Lukaku’s transfer to Manchester United.
The Belgium international put pen to paper on a long-term contract with the Red Devils earlier this week after Manchester United agreed a £75m fee with Everton for the centre-forward.
Manchester United’s second summer transfer deal was made all the sweeter considering that the Europa League winners managed to hijack Chelsea’s proposed transfer swoop for Lukaku.
The 24-year-old has been holidaying with Pogba in Los Angeles over the past week and the Premier League duo posted a series of teasing Instagram posts before the deal was officially confirmed.
And Pogba admitted that he pushed to get a deal that would see Lukaku move to Old Trafford but ultimately it was Jose Mourinho’s decision to bring in the Everton star.
“It was just luck that I was in Manchester United, but obviously for me, if I can push, I will push. But it’s not my decision, by the way,” Pogba told ESPN.
“It’s not my decision. It’s the manager’s decision, all the technical staff. Obviously, I think the players, we’re all happy that he’s playing for United, and we’re very happy for that.”
Lukaku scored 25 timesin 36 games in the Premier League last season to finish behind Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane in the goal-scoring charts.
Pogba moved to Manchester United in a world record £89m deal from Serie A giants Juventus in the 2016 summer transfer window.
