Arsene Wenger makes promise to Arsenal fans about Alexis Sanchez
Arsene Wenger has promised Arsenal supporters that Alexis Sanchez will not be sold this summer
Arsene Wenger has once again promised Arsenal fans that the club will not sell Alexis Sanchez this summer.
The Chile international’s situation has been a relentless source of speculation this summer due to the fact that he has entered into the final 12 months of his contract and has not penned a new deal.
Sanchez has been linked with a move away from The Emirates, with both Paris Saint-Germain and Manchester City touted as possible destinations for the 28-year-old.
There is also speculation about Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain’s futures, with both players also set to see their current contracts expire at the end of this season.
However, Wenger has insisted that he still remains hopeful that Arsenal will be able to extend the contracts of the trio, and vowed that they would not be sold before the end of the month.
Speaking in an interview with beIN Sports, Wenger said: “We always hope, even now, that we can extend the contracts of Sanchez, Chamberlain and Ozil.”
When asked whether he stood by his promise they will not be sold, Wenger added: “Yes, of course!
“I think it looks unusual to the media sometimes that clubs want the contract to be respected.
“I am amazed that you are amazed because it’s normal that if I sign a contract and I respect it.
“Of course if the club releases me it is normal that I know i can go somewhere else but I signed for two years with Arsenal and I have that contract and I have to respect it.”
Arsenal kicked off their Premier League campaign with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Leicester City at The Emirates last week.
The north Londoners are now preparing for a trip to the bet365 Stadium to take on Stoke City as they look to win their first Premier League away game of the new campaign.
