Jamie Redknapp sends message to Arsenal fans about new signing
The former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder endorses Arsenal's marquee summer signing Alexandre Lacazette
Jamie Redknapp has issued his backing for Arsenal’s new signing Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners signed the France international in a club-record £52m deal from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the summer transfer window.
The north London side recruited the 26-year-old striker to provide greater attacking threat to Arsene Wenger’s team.
Lacazette arrived in the English capital with a record of 100 goals in 203 games since making his Ligue 1 debut in 2010.
Arsenal are looking to break back into the Premier League’s top four following a fifth-place finish last season.
Former Liverpool and Tottenham midfielder Redknapp appeared to endorse Arsenal’s new striker ahead of their Premier League opener against Leicester City on Friday night.
“Lacazette is a goal-scorer. He’s a machine. He scored goals in France,” Redknapp told Sky Sports News on Monday night.
“Olivier Giroud plays ahead of him for the national team and he’s going to be on the bench for them.”
The Gunners will host the Foxes at the Emirates Stadium in their opening Premier League clash of the 2017-18 season on Friday night.
Arsenal will be hoping to bounce back from a disappointing campaign that saw Arsene Wenger’s side finish in fifth place behind Liverpool.
The north London side started their summer transfer activity with the addition of Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.
