Thierry Henry sends message to Arsenal fans about new signing
The Arsenal legend is confident Alexandre Lacazette will prove a big hit at the north London club
Thierry Henry is confident that Arsenal new signing Alexandre Lacazette will be a success in the Premier League.
The France international completed a club-record £52m move to FA Cup holders from Ligue 1 side Lyon in the summer transfer window.
Lacazette scored 100 times in 203 appearances in the French top flight since making his debut for Lyon in 2010.
The 26-year-old has proven pedigree in European competitions – too, netting 15 times in 47 appearances in the Champions League and the Europa League.
The French forward will be tasked with leading the Arsenal attack in the 2017-18 Premier League season as Arsene Wenger looks to secure a return to the Champions League.
Former Arsenal striker Henry is confident that Lacazette will prove a success at the north London club ahead of his potential Premier League debut on Friday night.
“I have been following Lacazette for a long time. He has been a talent since youth level,” Henry told Sky Sports.
“He has always been a guy that people have talked about. At Lyon he scored goal after goal after goal, so it is not surprising that he was hot property on the transfer market.”
Henry added: “We all know about his quality. He’s an excellent finisher. He has a great mind, a great mentality, great commitment and great focus.
“When you buy players from abroad you don’t know for sure how they will adapt, but I back Lacazette to be successful in the Premier League.”
Lacazette was the second summer signing at Arsenal following the arrival of Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.
Arsenal will start their new campaign with a home clash against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a spot in the Champions League.
