Pep Guardiola replies when asked if Man City will bid for Arsenal star Alexis Sanchez
Pep Guardiola was giving little away when asked about the speculation linking Alexis Sanchez with a move to Manchester City
Pep Guardiola remained coy when quizzed about the speculation linking Manchester City with a big-money bid to sign Alexis Sanchez from Arsenal this summer.
The 28-year-old Chile international has been relentlessly linked with a move away from The Emirates this summer after he entered into the final 12 months of his contract.
Arsene Wenger insisted last week that he was still hopeful that Arsenal would be able to tie Sanchez down to a new contract.
But that has done little to quell the speculation suggesting that Sanchez could be set to leave The Emirates before the transfer deadline on Thursday.
Manchester City have been credited with an interest in signing Sanchez before the transfer deadline next week, but Guardiola was giving little away when quizzed about his reported interest in bringing him to The Etihad.
Speaking at a news conference on Friday, Guardiola said: “Alexis? He’s an Arsenal player, like Evans is a West Brom player. You have to ask Alexis.
“Normally I don’t talk about players from other clubs
“I’m happy with the squad I have. We have five or six days left, and we’ll see with the market. Maybe some of the players here will leave and we will see.
“Now the market is difficult and it was difficult before. You have to spend more, not just City but other clubs. They’re looking for the best solutions. They wait until the last minute to make the deal cheaper.”
Sanchez is in line to make his first appearance for Arsenal this season when the Gunners take on Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon.
The north London side are looking to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium last weekend.
