Michael Owen makes prediction about Arsenal next season
The Liverpool legend expresses his concerns about Arsene Wenger and Arsenal ahead of the new Premier League season
Michael Owen has warned Arsene Wenger that one bad result could create a lot of hostility at Arsenal.
The Gunners boss managed to survive a turbulent 2016-17 campaign despite finishing in fifth place in the Premier League to miss out on a Champions League spot.
Arsenal lost 10-2 on aggregate to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich to exit Europe’s premier club competition at the round of last 16 for the seventh successive season.
However, the north London side ended the campaign on a positive note with a 2-1 win against Premier League champions Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Wenger signed a new three-year contract with Arsenal despite increasing dissent from the club’s supporters at a lack of progress under the Frenchman.
Former Liverpool and Manchester United striker Owen expressed his concerns about Arsenal ahead of the 2017-18 Premier League season.
“With Arsenal I’m just not sure about the overall feeling within the club,” Owen told the Daily Mirror.
“My gut feeling is they could win five straight games, but if they lose the sixth the Wenger out brigade will come out which creates a negative atmosphere and that’s probably the main thing going against Arsenal.”
Arsenal haven’t won the Premier League title since 2003-04 when the Gunners won the top-flight crown without losing a league game.
The Gunners have won the FA Cup three times in the past four seasons thanks to victories over Aston Villa, Hull City and Chelsea.
Arsenal have signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac and Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in the summer transfer window so far.
