Gary Neville picked out five Arsenal players for criticism after Sunday’s humiliating 4-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday.

The Gunners made the trip to Merseyside looking to restore some pride after a 1-0 defeat at Stoke City in their second Premier League games of the 2017-18 season.

However, Arsenal struggled to come to terms with Liverpool’s attacking trio of Roberto Firmino, Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah in the opening 45 minutes.

Liverpool’s Brazilian forward broke the deadlock in the first half before Mane netted a superb solo goal on the counter-attack to extend the home side’s lead.

Hector Bellerin’s poor defending allowed Salah to make it 3-0 shortly after half-time before substitute Daniel Sturridge netted his first goal of the season to wrap up three points.

Arsene Wenger was critical of his Gunners players following their disastrous performance at Anfield to raise questions about their title bid.

Former Manchester United defender Neville has singled out Granit Xhaka, Mesut Ozil, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Aaron Ramsey and Alexis Sanchez.

Neville told Sky Sports: “The issue I had was that in the first 15-20 minutes, Ozil, Ramsey, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Sanchez and Xhaka – all of them on occasions didn’t do the most basic thing that I think every fan, coach and player knows they have to do: when the ball goes past you towards your goal and your team-mates are struggling, you run back as quickly as you possibly can.

“You’re told that at the age of five. All the way through your career you’re told this. It’s a personal pride thing. I’m naming those five but there may be more. It’s absolutely disgraceful.

“It doesn’t represent the Arsenal shirt, it doesn’t represent what they are and they’ve let themselves down as individuals.”

Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a Champions League spot.

The north London side have only collected three points from their opening three Premier League games.
