Jamie Redknapp sends encouraging title message to Arsenal about Chelsea
The former Liverpool midfielder wants Arsenal and Spurs to capitalise on the turmoil at Chelsea
Jamie Redknapp believes Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur should be ready to dethrone Chelsea in the Premier League title race this season.
The west London side won the Premier League in their first season under the management of Antonio Conte after finishing seven points clear of Spurs.
Chelsea have endured a tough summer transfer window despite making four additions to their squad in preparation for competing on four different fronts.
The Blues have signed Manchester City goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
However, the title holders made the controversial decision to sell Serbia international Nemanja Matic to Manchester United, while Nathan Ake was sold to Chelsea in a £20m deal.
Diego Costa’s future remains unresolved despite Antonio Conte sending the controversial striker a text to confirm that his days at Stamford Bridge were numbered.
Former Tottenham midfielder Redknapp believes Arsenal and Spurs should be ready to capitalise on the turmoil at Chelsea in the title race.
“With Tottenham’s XI they should not fear anybody, whether it’s at Wembley or not,” Redknapp told Sky Sports.
“There’s a vulnerability about Chelsea – and Arsenal and Spurs should be thinking, ‘We can win the league this year’.”
Arsenal signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04.
The Gunners have also spent a club-record fee on France striker Alexandre Lacazette to bring the striker from Lyon.
