Steve McManaman makes prediction about Arsenal ahead of new season
The Liverpool legend believes Arsenal are in good shape ahead of the new Premier League season
Steve McManaman believes Arsenal are in good shape ahead of the new season.
The Gunners finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a spot ahead of the Champions League.
Arsenal crashed out of the Champions League last term following a 10-2 loss to Bundesliga outfit Bayern Munich in the round of last 16.
The north London side did manage to get their hands on the FA Cup for the third time in four season to end the campaign on a high note.
Wenger has signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac on a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 in July.
The Arsenal manager spent a club-record £52m fee on Alexandre Lacazette from Ligue 1 side Lyon last month.
The Gunners managed to win their piece of silverware on Sunday afternoon as Arsenal beat Premier League champions Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley.
Kolasinac cancelled out Victor Moses’ opener before Thibaut Courtois and Alvaro Morata missed their spot-kick efforts at the home of English football.
Former Liverpool midfielder McManaman believes Arsenal have made a good start to the new season, which should tee them up to start the Premier League season well.
“I think they’re in good shape,” McManaman told BT Sport on Sunday evening.
“I still think they could do with a couple of more players but you could say that about every single team to be very honest.
“There’s nothing like a couple of Wembley wins to lighten everything up. The fact that they won the FA Cup and Community Shield is great for them.”
Arsenal will start their Premier League campaign with a home clash against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.
