Arsene Wenger replies when asked if Arsenal are signing 21-year-old winger
Arsene Wenger admits that it is unlikely that Arsenal will sign Thomas Lemar from Monaco this summer
Arsene Wenger has admitted that it is now very unlikely that Arsenal will be able to sign Thomas Lemar before the transfer deadline next week.
The 21-year-old France international has been touted as a possible target for the north London side throughout the summer as Wenger looks to secure a third signing before deadline day.
However, the Gunners have been unable to conclude a deal with Monaco to sign the midfielder so far this summer.
And Arsenal manager Wenger feels that it is now unlikely that the north London side will be able to conclude a deal to bring Lemar to The Emirates before next Thursday.
Speaking at a news conference on Thursday morning, Wenger said: “It [a deal for Lemar] is dead because Monaco I think have closed the door definitely and because they’re still on cases like Kylian Mbappe and Fabinho.
“They lost already Benjamin Mendy and Bernardo Silva and Tiemoue Bakayoko.
“Monaco are at a stage where they have closed the door.”
Arsenal are currently preparing for their crunch Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield on Sunday afternoon as they look to get back to winning ways in the top flight.
The Gunners were beaten 1-0 by Stoke City last weekend as they made a stuttering start to the new campaign.
Despite having been linked with a host players, Arsenal have only made two signings so far this summer, after having tied up deals for both Alexandre Lacazette and Sead Kolasinac.
