Arsenal join race to sign 22-year-old Real Madrid midfielder – report
Arsenal are interested in signing Marcos Llorente from Real Madrid this summer, say reports
Arsenal have joined the race to sign Marcos Llorente from Real Madrid this summer, according to reports in Spain.
The Sun is quoting unnamed sources in the Spanish media as saying that the 22-year-old midfielder could be allowed to leave Real Madrid this summer after falling down the pecking order at the Bernabeu.
The same report says that Arsenal are keen on signing the midfielder, but that they face competition from Atletico Madrid and Sevilla for his signature.
The Spanish Under-21 international spent last season away on loan to Deportivo Alaves.
Llorente, who has been at the Spanish club since 2008, has dropped down the pecking order at Real Madrid after the emergence of Mateo Kovacic at the Bernabeu.
Arsenal are believed to be on the lookout for further signings this summer before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
The north London side have brought in two players so far this summer, having tied up deals for Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
The Gunners are looking to challenge for the Premier League title this season after they ended up in a disappointing fifth place last term and missed out on Champions League qualification.
