Spanish newspaper El Mundo Deportivo, as quoted by the Daily Star, is reporting that the Gunners have had an initial offer for the 20-year-old forward turned down by the Bundesliga club.
The same report states that both Real Madrid and Barcelona are now also in the race to sign the Frenchman’s signature before the close of the current transfer window.
The story says that Arsenal have a “long-standing” interest in Dembele and that they tried to sign him last summer before he ended up joining Dortmund from Rennes.
The article also claims that French side Paris Saint-Germain have also had a bid for Dembele rejected in recent days.
Arsenal are thought to be on the lookout for attacking reinforcements this summer, with the Gunners having been heavily linked with a move for Monaco star Thomas Lemar in recent weeks.
The north London side have only made two signings so far this summer, having wrapped up deals for Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
Arsenal take on Chelsea in the Community Shield at Wembley on Sunday afternoon as they look to win the first trophy on offer this season.
