Arsene Wenger sends message to Arsenal fans about potential third signing
Arsene Wenger insists that Arsenal's 1-0 loss to Stoke City is not going to affect his summer transfer plans
Arsene Wenger has insisted that Arsenal’s 1-0 loss to Stoke City is not going to spark him into making panic signings before the close of the transfer window.
Wenger watched his side slump to a disappointing defeat at the bet365 Stadium as Jese’s goal shortly after half-time secured the points for Mark Hughes’ men.
Arsenal have been linked with a host of players this summer but have only made two signings, after wrapping up deals for both Sead Kolasinac and Alexandre Lacazette.
However, it remains to be seen whether the Gunners will be able to complete any more deals before the transfer window closes at the end of the month.
And Wenger was typically coy when asked about his remaining transfer plans for the summer in his post-match news conference at the bet365 Stadium.
Speaking at his news conference, Wenger said: “I expect to sell players first, that is all.
“I expect some players to go because we have too many players and it is not manageable.
“Many clubs are in this situation which is why the transfer market is quiet. We have 33 players at the moment, and that is too many players.
“I am not in transfer mode after a game like that. We are more disappointed at the moment rather than thinking about buying players straight away tonight.”
Arsenal must now quickly dust themselves down as they prepare for their Premier League clash against Liverpool at Anfield next weekend.
The Gunners, who finished fifth last term, had been hoping to challenge for the title this season after having failed to win the top-flight trophy since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
