Arsene Wenger told to start Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal at Liverpool
Paul Merson says Arsene Wenger must start Alexis Sanchez against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday
Paul Merson has urged Arsene Wenger to start Alexis Sanchez for Arsenal against Liverpool in the Premier League clash at Anfield on Sunday if he is fit.
The Chile international has missed Arsenal’s opening two games of the Premier League season due to a minor injury but is now believed to be ready to return to action for the north London side.
Sanchez is widely regarded as one of the best players in the Premier League and the Gunners will surely be desperate to reintroduce him into their team as quickly as possible.
And Merson believes that Sanchez should go straight into the starting line-up for the Gunners if he is indeed fit to feature.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Thursday, former Arsenal star Merson said: “If he’s fit and ready to play, you have to play him.
“They got dismantled by Liverpool at home – they let in four with Laurent Koscielny sat in stands and he wasn’t ready to play – he had been playing for France.
“Does Sanchez go to Chile after the game to play a double header?
“If he’s doing that, you’ve got to play him. They can’t afford to lose this game and he’s their best player by a country mile.”
Arsenal head into the game looking to get back to winning ways after the disappointment of their 1-0 loss to Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium last weekend.
The north London side are aiming to challenge for the Premier League title this season after coming up short and ending up fifth in the table last term.
Arsenal have not won the Premier League since their famous unbeaten triumph in the 2003-04 season.
