Thierry Henry uses Eden Hazard to make point about Arsenal
Thierry Henry believes that Arsene Wenger needs to be more ruthless with his treatment of Mesut Ozil at Arsenal
Thierry Henry has urged Arsene Wenger to be more ruthless with Mesut Ozil if the Arsenal playmaker is not on his game.
The Germany playmaker is widely regarded to be one of the top midfield talents in the Premier League following his arrival at The Emirates from Real Madrid back in the summer of 2013.
However, Ozil also sometimes faces criticism for failing to produce consistent performances for the Gunners.
Now, Arsenal legend Henry has told Wenger to consider taking Ozil off if he is not performing, and pointed to Antonio Conte’s treatment of Eden Hazard as an example of good management.
Speaking on Sky Sports’ Monday Night Football, Henry said: “He doesn’t’ take Mesut off when Mesut isn’t on his game and that can happen.
“It shouldn’t happen the amount of times it does happens but Mourinho wouldn’t hesitate. Conte wouldn’t hesitate.
“It happened a couple of times with Eden Hazard last year. What happened? The three times he took Eden Hazard off after an hour – the game after he scored from the halfway line [against Arsenal].
“He destroyed Arsenal because he woke him up.”
Ozil played the full 90 minutes as Arsenal secured a thrilling 3-2 win over Leicester City at The Emirates in their Premier League opener last Friday.
The Gunners are now preparing for their Premier League clash against Stoke City at the bet365 Stadium on Saturday evening as they look to make it two wins from two in the top flight.
Arsenal are preparing for a season of Europa League football after the Gunners missed out on a top-four finish last term and ended up fifth in the table.
