The French striker underlined his importance to the north London side when he came off the bench to score the winner in the Gunners’ thrilling 4-3 win over Leicester City at The Emirates in their Premier League opener on Friday night.
Giroud’s future has been a source of speculation this summer after Arsenal moved quickly to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette.
Indeed, Giroud was left on the bench in the starting line-up as Lacazette scored and impressed on his first Premier League start for the north London side.
However, Wenger has now revealed that Giroud has opted to stay at Arsenal and fight for his place in the team beyond the summer.
Speaking to Sky Sports after Friday’s game, Wenger said: “He doesn’t want to leave, and I’m happy that he wants to stay.
“But at some stage I opened the door for him because I knew that I had many strikers. He’s really loved here and in the end he decided to stay.”
Arsenal now turn their attentions towards their next Premier League game, a trip to Stoke City next Saturday afternoon as they look to enjoy a successful season in the top flight.
The Gunners won the FA Cup last season and lifted the Community Shield last weekend after beating Chelsea at Wembley.
