Ian Wright tells Arsenal to sign proven 26-year-old right now
Ian Wright says he would love to see Arsenal make a move to try and sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton
Ian Wright believes that Arsenal should make a move to try and sign Virgil van Dijk from Southampton this summer.
The Netherlands defender’s future has been a constant source of speculation this summer as he continues to be linked with a transfer away from the south coast club.
Liverpool have been the club most strongly linked with signing the 26-year-old defender but the Reds have so far failed in their attempts to land Van Dijk.
The Merseyside outfit were forced to issue a public apology to Southampton after the Saints accused them of an alleged illegal approach, but that has not stopped the Reds being linked with Van Dijk.
And former Arsenal star Wright feels that Van Dijk, who has also been linked with Chelsea and Manchester City, would be a perfect signing for the Gunners this summer.
Speaking on BBC Radio 5 live on Monday, Wright said: “I wish Arsenal would come in for Van Dijk.”
He continued: “We haven’t signed the players who we are always talking about leading Arsenal.
“At some point we are going to need them and the test is going to come. I would have definitely tried to sign Van Dijk.”
Arsenal have made two signings so far this summer after wrapping up deals for defender Sead Kolasinac and striker Alexandre Lacazette.
However, the north London club continue to be linked with a host of other players as Arsenal prepare for the 2017-18 campaign.
Arsenal will take on Leicester City in the Premier League’s season curtain raiser on Friday night at The Emirates.
