PSG president replies when asked if he wants to sign Arsenal star
PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi insists the Ligue 1 giants have good relations with Arsenal despite talk of signing Alexis Sanchez this summer
Nasser Al-Khelaifi has insisted that Paris Saint-Germain’s relations with Arsenal are positive despite remaining tight-lipped about their interest in Alexis Sanchez.
The PSG president was asked about whether the Ligue 1 side want to sign the Gunners star in the summer transfer window despite having spent a world-record £198m fee on Barcelona striker Neymar.
Sanchez has entered the final 12 months of his current contract with the north London side and Arsenal have been able to reach an agreement with the Chile international about an extension.
Premier League champions Chelsea and Manchester City have both been linked with a move to sign the 28-year-old but understandably, Arsenal are thought to be reluctant to sell to a direct rival.
Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich and Serie A holders Juventus were previously touted as potential destinations for the Arsenal star, but PSG now appears to be the most likely destination.
However, PSG president Al-Khelaifi refused to shed light on their interest in Sanchez but did confirm that the communication channels are open between the Ligue 1 side and Arsenal.
“If I want Alexis Sanchez I’m going to talk to Arsene Wenger. We have respect for Arsenal – excellent relations,” Al-Khelaifi is quoted as saying by Sky Sports.
Arsenal signed Sanchez in a £35m deal from La Liga giants Barcelona in the 2014 summer transfer window.
