Ex-defender sends urgent message to Arsene Wenger about Arsenal signings
Danny Mills believes Arsenal in most need of new signings ahead of the start of the Premier League season
Danny Mills believes Arsenal need to strengthen urgently in the final weeks of the summer transfer window.
The Gunners are looking to rebuild following a disappointing fifth-place finish in the Premier League table last season.
However, the north London side have only managed to complete two summer deals in the current transfer window.
Arsenal have signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 in June.
Arsene Wenger spent a club-record £52m fee on Alexandre Lacazette to sign the France international from Ligue 1 side Lyon.
However, the Gunners are still facing uncertainty about Alexis Sanchez, Mesut Ozil and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, who have all entered the final 12 months of their contracts.
Former Manchester City defender Mills has questioned Arsenal’s lack of signings in the summer transfer window given the north London side’s disappointing 2016-17 season.
“It would have to be Arsenal [who need to strengthen most urgently this summer],” Mills told Sky Sports News on Tuesday.
“A lot of it depends on Sanchez but if he goes they’re going to need to bring in some replacements I think.
“If they want to get back to challenging for the title, or even get in the Champions League, they still need two or three more signings.”
Arsenal lost 10-2 on aggregate to Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich in the Champions League round of 16 to make a humiliating exit from the competition.
The north London side extended their Premier League drought to 13 seasons after dismal second half of the campaign.
The Gunners will start the 2017-18 season with a home clash against Leicester City at the Emirates Stadium on Friday night.
