Arsenal face increased competition to sign 26-year-old midfielder – report
Arsenal are hoping to sign Nice midfielder Jean Seri in the summer transfer window but now face competition from PSG, according to reports in France
Arsenal are facing increased competition to sign Nice midfielder Jean Seri this summer, according to reports in France.
French newspaper Le Parisien, as quoted by website football.london, is reporting that Paris Saint-Germain are interested in signing the 26-year-old midfielder.
The same article reveals that PSG want Seri to replace France international Blaise Matuidi, who is closing in on a move to Serie A giants Juventus.
According to the story, Arsenal were hoping to sign the Nice star in a cut-price deal if the Ligue 1 side failed to make it to the Champions League group stage.
However, Nice booked their place in the playoffs where they will face Serie A giants Napoli over two legs for a place in Europe’s elite competition.
But with PSG monitoring Seri, Arsenal might have to rethink their timeline to sign the Ivory Coast international with the second leg taking place in France on Tuesday 22 August.
The Gunners are looking to secure a return to the Champions League this season after a fifth-place finish behind Liverpool last term.
The north London side have already signed Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Bundesliga outfit Schalke 04 this summer.
Arsenal smashed their club transfer record to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette in a £52m deal last month.
