The Gunners are rebuilding this summer after the north London side missed out on a top-four finish in the 2016-17 campaign.
Arsene Wenger recruited Bosnian defender Sead Kolasinac in a free transfer from Bundesliga giants Schalke 04 in June.
The Arsenal boss then spent a club-record £52m fee on signing Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette to improve their attacking options.
The FA Cup holders are still facing uncertainty surrounding Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez as the pair enter the final 12 months of their contract.
Arsenal have been linked with a move to sign AS Monaco forward Thomas Lemar despite concerns over a lack of quality in midfield.
Former Gunners defender Groves admits he would like to see Wenger sure up his defensive midfield options with the addition of Sevilla’s N’Zonzi.
“I’m not just saying this because I watched him [on Sunday] but I’ve been a massive fan of Steven N’Zonzi, I think he could do a real job in the centre of that midfield for us, adding the steel he did at Stoke and Blackburn,” Groves told bwin. “He’s a destroyer.”
N’Zonzi has scored two goals and has made three assists in 35 appearances in La Liga last season.
Arsenal won the FA Cup last season thanks to a 2-1 win against Premier League champions Chelsea at Wembley.
