Ex-defender backs Arsenal to sign top 21-year-old attacker in £45m deal
The former Arsenal defender believes the Gunners will conclude a deal to sign Thomas Lemar from AS Monaco this summer
Perry Groves is confident Arsenal will sign Thomas Lemar even if the Gunners have to stump up £45m for the AS Monaco star.
The FA Cup holders have been linked with the 21-year-old attacker over the past couple of weeks but AS Monaco’s reluctance to sell is holding up a deal.
According to some reports in the British media, Arsenal have already seen three bids rejected by the Ligue 1 champions for the France international.
However, Arsene Wenger is now expected to sanction a fourth offer to sign the AS Monaco starlet in the summer transfer window.
Former Arsenal defender Groves is backing the north London side to get a deal over the line for Lemar even if the Gunners have to cough up a £45m transfer fee.
“I think the Lemar deal will get done, it’s coming down to how much,” Groves told bwin.
“I’d like to think we’re in the position that if they want £45m, then we go and pay it and send the right message to the player that we want you.
“As mentioned, I still think we’re two or three players away from winning the title.”
Arsenal finished in fifth place in the Premier League table last season to miss out on a place in the Champions League.
The Gunners managed to end the 2016-17 season on a positive note after Arsenal were 2-1 winners against Premier League champions Chelsea in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
