Michael Owen is backing Chelsea to secure a 2-1 win over Arsenal in the Community Shield clash at Wembley on Sunday afternoon.
The Gunners head into the game looking beat Chelsea in consecutive games at Wembley after they triumphed in the FA Cup final back in May.
Chelsea, meanwhile, are also aiming to kick off their season in a positive way as they prepare for Antonio Conte’s second campaign in charge at the west London side.
The Blues won the Premier League in style last term as they secured a record 30 victories on their way to the title.
Arsenal had to make do with just the FA Cup last season but although Owen says he hasn’t been impressed by Chelsea in pre-season, he’s still expecting the Blues to beat the Gunners on Sunday.
Writing in his column for BetVictor, Owen said: “It would be wrong to say I have been overly impressed by the business the champions have done this summer although I do feel Tiemoue Bakayoko, who misses Sunday’s game through injury, is a great addition to the Blues’ squad.
“That said, I do feel they will have too much for Arsenal in what promises to be an entertaining and informative contest. Do note the sides have already met in pre-season with the Champions winning 3-0 in the Bird’s Nest Stadium in China a fortnight ago.
“The Gunners have won their last seven games at Wembley and I expect them to give a very good account of themselves, but I feel it will be Gary Cahill who lifts the Trophy after an entertaining and competitive game.”
Arsenal are set to have to make do without Champions League football next season after their fifth-placed finish in the Premier League.
The north London side will try to emulate Manchester United and win the Europa League title next term, as Chelsea prepare for a return to the Champions League.
