Gary Lineker reacts to Chelsea’s 2-1 win over Tottenham
The Spurs legend describes Chelsea's 2-1 win at Wembley as a hammer blow to Tottenham
Gary Lineker singled out Victor Wanyama and Hugo Lloris for criticism after Chelsea’s 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur at Wembley on Sunday.
The north London side welcomed the Premier League champions to the home of English football in their first top-flight fixture since temporarily relocating to Wembley.
Tottenham were 2-0 winners at Newcastle United last weekend to get their title challenge off to a promising start, while Chelsea lost 3-2 to Burnley at Stamford Bridge.
However, Chelsea made the breakthrough before half-time thanks to Marcos Alonso’s impressive free-kick.
Harry Kane hit the woodwork as Tottenham pushed for an equaliser but it was Chelsea substitute Michy Batshuayi who levelled the Premier League clash with an own goal.
The defending champions restored their slender lead thanks to Alonso’s late goal after the Spanish defender managed to squeeze a finish past Spurs goalkeeper Hugo Lloris.
Lineker took to Twitter to criticise the Tottenham captain and midfielder Wanyama as Spurs started their spell at Wembley with a defeat.
Lineker wrote on Twitter: “Brilliant from Kante. Great from Alonso. Poor from Wanyama. Awful from Lloris. Huge for Chelsea. Killer for Spurs.”
Chelsea will host Everton in their next Premier League game at Stamford Bridge next Saturday.
Tottenham, on the other hand, will welcome Burnley to Wembley as Mauricio Pochettino’s side look to get their 2017-18 campaign back on track.
