Michael Owen is backing Chelsea to start their title defence with a home victory over Burnley on Saturday afternoon.
Antonio Conte led the west London side to the Premier League title in the Italian coach’s first season at charge at Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea won the Premier League title with two games to spare last term after the Blues ended up seven points ahead of runners-up Tottenham Hotspur.
The Premier League champions missed out on the double following a 2-1 loss to London rivals Arsenal in the FA Cup final at Wembley.
Chelsea have signed Manchester City reserve goalkeeper Willy Caballero, AS Roma defender Antonio Rudiger, Monaco midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko and Real Madrid striker Alvaro Morata.
Former Liverpool striker Owen is backing Chelsea to beat Burnley in their opening Premier League campaign despite the retired England international’s concerns about the champions.
Owen told BetVictor: “I haven’t been overly impressed by Chelsea’s summer signings to date and I imagine Blues boss Antonio Conte will have a busy time between now and the end of the transfer window.
“Burnley had a dreadful record on the road last season and I feel they will continue to struggle this term with goals likely to be at a premium.”
Chelsea have sold Serbia international Nemanja Matic in a £40m deal to direct title rivals Manchester United to leave Conte’s team looking lightweight in midfield.
The Blues are without John Terry after the club captain called time on his Chelsea career to move to Championship side Aston Villa.
The west London side are also expected to sell Spain international Diego Costa after Conte told the 28-year-old that he is free to leave.
